Three days
3 days in Burgas: city, Nessebar, lakes and Sozopol
Three days is the sweet spot. You keep the city and Nessebar, then use the third day for the two things Burgas does better than any other Bulgarian resort: the lakes on the migratory flyway, and Sozopol's stone-and-wood old town to the south.

Day 1 and 2: city and Nessebar
Day 1
Burgas on foot
Bogoridi Street, the cathedral, a museum wing, the Sea Garden end to end, and sunset on the wooden bridge.
Day 2
Nessebar and the port
Morning bus to the UNESCO peninsula, afternoon on the central beach, evening at Magazia 1.
Day 3: lakes and Sozopol

Birdwatching at Poda or Atanasovsko Lake
Burgas sits on the Via Pontica flyway. Poda has a hide and a visitor centre south of the city; Atanasovsko is the salt lake north of it, pink with brine shrimp and full of waders in migration season.

Return to the centre for banitsa and boza, or a proper breakfast on Bogoridi.

Bus south to Sozopol
Around 40 minutes from the South Bus Station. Head straight for the old town on the peninsula.

Cobbled lanes, wooden Revival houses over stone bases, small churches, and Harmanite beach a short walk from the gate.

Back in Burgas, the park alleys stay busy well after dark in summer.

- — Migration peaks in late August to October and again in March and April; midsummer is the quietest for birds.
