Two days

2 days in Burgas: city plus Nessebar old town

With two days you keep the full city day and add the best half-day trip on this stretch of coast: Nessebar, a UNESCO-listed old town on a rocky peninsula, forty minutes away by bus.

Best for
A weekend on the Black Sea coast, or a two-night stop between Sofia and Varna
Rough budget
Around 150-200 BGN per person including bus fares and two dinners
Walking
About 7 km on day one, 6 km on day two

Day 1: Burgas city

  1. Morning

    Old centre and cathedral

Coffee on Bogoridi Street, the 1907 cathedral, and one wing of the Regional Historical Museum.

  2. Afternoon

    Sea Garden and beach

Walk the clifftop park past the casino and Pantheon, then drop to the central beach for a swim.

  3. Evening

Bridge at sunset, dinner by the port

Sunset on the wooden pier, then grilled fish near the harbour.

Day 2: Nessebar and the port

  1. 08:30

    Bus to Nessebar

Buses leave regularly from the South Bus Station next to the train station and take about 40 minutes along the bay.

  2. 09:30

    Nessebar old town

A UNESCO World Heritage peninsula of medieval churches, wooden Revival houses and the old windmill on the causeway. Start at the far tip and work back so you finish near the buses.

  3. 13:00

    Lunch above the water

Eat on the south side of the peninsula, where the terraces hang over the sea and the crowds thin out.

  4. 16:00

    Back to the central beach

Return to Burgas for an easy afternoon swim rather than trying to squeeze in a second town.

  5. 20:00

    Magazia 1 in the port

The converted warehouse district hosts events, bars and exhibitions with the working harbour alongside.

Good to know

  • Go to Nessebar early: by 11:00 in summer the old town's main lane is shoulder to shoulder.
  • Keep small notes for the bus — drivers do not always have change for large bills.
  • If the sea is rough, swap the beach afternoon for the Ethnographic Museum and the port.

Questions about this plan

Is Nessebar a good day trip from Burgas?

Yes. It is around 40 minutes by public bus from the South Bus Station, runs frequently in summer, and half a day is enough for the old town.

Do I need a car for two days in Burgas?

No. Day one is walkable and Nessebar is easy by bus. A car only starts to pay off on day three, for Strandzha or the lakes.
