One day

1 day in Burgas: the perfect one-day itinerary

Burgas is small enough to see properly in a single day on foot. This plan runs from a morning coffee on Bogoridi Street to sunset on the wooden bridge, with no transport needed beyond your own legs.

Best for
Cruise stops, a layover from Burgas Airport, or a first day before moving down the coast
Rough budget
Around 60-90 BGN per person with a sit-down fish dinner
Walking
About 7 km, all flat

Morning: the old centre

  1. 08:30

    Coffee on Bogoridi Street

Start on the pedestrian spine that runs from the train station towards the sea. The restored merchant facades look best in low morning light, and the cafés open early.

  2. 09:30

    St. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral

The 1907 Orthodox cathedral is two minutes off Bogoridi. Painted interior, stained glass, and usually quiet mid-morning outside service times.

  3. 10:30

    Regional Historical Museum

Pick one of the four buildings rather than all of them. The Ethnographic Museum, in an 1873 house, is the most atmospheric if you only have an hour.

Afternoon: the Sea Garden

  1. 12:30

    Lunch near the centre

Duck into the side streets north of Bogoridi for a shopska salad and something grilled before the walk.

  2. 14:00

Walk the Sea Garden end to end

Two kilometres of clifftop park above the beach: the casino building, the Pantheon, flower gardens, open-air stages and long views over the bay.

  3. 16:00

    Central beach swim

The city beach sits directly below the park, so you can drop down the steps, swim, and climb back up for the evening.

Evening: bridge and port

  1. 19:00

    Sunset on the wooden bridge

The pier reaching into the bay is the classic Burgas photo, with cargo ships waiting offshore for their turn in the port.

  2. 20:30

    Grilled fish by the port

Finish at Magazia 1 in the redeveloped harbour, where old warehouses now hold restaurants, exhibitions and summer concerts.

Good to know

  • Everything on this list is walkable — do not rent a car for a single day in the city.
  • If you arrive by plane, bus 15 links Burgas Airport with the centre in about 25 minutes.
  • In July and August, shift the Sea Garden walk to after 16:00 and swap the museum into the hot midday hours.

Questions about this plan

Is one day enough for Burgas?

Yes for the city itself. Burgas' centre, Sea Garden, beach and port are all within a 3 km walk, so one full day covers the highlights comfortably. You need a second day only if you want to add Nessebar or Sozopol.

What is the best thing to do in Burgas in one day?

Walking the Sea Garden from end to end and finishing with sunset on the wooden bridge. It is free, takes about two hours at a slow pace, and is what locals do every evening.
